A “certified translation” is a document that began in one language and has been changed to another by a person who has demonstrated proficiency in the source and target language. It is accompanied by a signed statement proving that the translation is accurate and complete to the best of the translator’s knowledge and ability. The signed statement is prepared by the person who translated the document.
During the U.S. university application process, institutions of higher education will require you to submit original documents from local academic institutions. However, many of these documents may be in Spanish, in which case EducationUSA Chile will make a true copy of the document translated into English and certify that it corresponds to the content in the original language.

Most U.S. universities require “certified translations” of any document that is not in English. This helps them understand the information in the document, but also confirms that you are submitting information from a formal and valid document. You should request a certified translation for each document required in the application process. Incomplete or untranslated documentation can delay or even void your application.
Whether you are applying for undergraduate, graduate or doctoral studies, you must have a certified translation of any document that is not in English.
Using a certified translation also means that you do not need to send a physical copy of the original document. Most universities will accept a certified translation and a scanned copy of the original.
At the moment, we only offer virtual certified translation requests. You can send the scanned documents to santiago@educationusa.org, specifying the number of certified copies you need.
We will get back to you with the total cost and delivery date. If you agree with the information provided, you will need to transfer the total amount to EducationUSA’s account and send a copy of the transfer receipt to santiago@educationusa.org.
We will then notify you by email when you can get your certified translations.
Please note: in order to deliver them to you, we will ask you to show us the original documents, to make sure that they correspond to real documents.
